KATHMANDU, May 1: The Ministry of Home Affairs has recommended the promotion of Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Bishwa Raj Pokharel to the post of Inspector General (IG) of Nepal Police. According to sources, Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand made the proposal at the Cabinet meeting today.
The source, however, added that Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba was in favor of appointing AIG Dhiraj Pratap Singh as the next IGP. Some NC leaders are said to be lamenting that the erstwhile KP Sharma Oli-led government had single-handedly promoted Pokharel so that he could be later promoted to the coveted post of IGP, and have put forward AIG Singh as an alternative to AIG Pokharel.
