Home Minister Lekhak holds emergency meeting as pro-monarchy protest turns violent

The meeting, which includes Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, the Home Secretary, and a team from security agencies, is currently being held at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

KATHMANDU, March 28: An emergency meeting is underway at the Ministry of Home Affairs following the violent turn of the pro-monarchy group's protest.  


The meeting, which includes Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, the Home Secretary, and a team from security agencies, is currently being held at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The purpose of the meeting is to assess the situation of the protest and make decisions regarding future actions, according to the Home Minister's secretariat.  


Police fired dozens of tear gas canisters to disperse the protesters, who also set fire to a police vehicle. A curfew has been imposed in some areas of Kathmandu in response to the escalating violence.
