KATHMANDU, April 25: A meeting of the high-level political mechanism (HLPM) scheduled for Sunday has been put off again due to allegations and counter allegations of parties.

According to Nepali Congress vice president Ram Chandra Poudel, the meeting had to be postponed after CPN (UML) leaders could not attend the meeting due to party’s standing committee meeting.[break]

However, Maoist vice chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha said the meeting was deferred for an indefinite period following the ‘negligence on the part of Congress and UML towards the mechanism’.

In the previous meeting held on April 21, saying that timely promulgation of the constitution was not possible, Congress and UML stressed for holding consultations with other parties for the extension of CA tenure while Maoist stressed that the CA tenure be not extended before taking the national unity issue to a conclusion.

In the meeting, it was also agreed to dismantle the para-military structure of YCL, return the property seized by Maoists to the rightful owners, complete the peace process and constitution making, form a State Restructuring Commission and reach the issue of national unity to its conclusion.
