Amidst a press conference at the party´s central office in the capital after a two-day Central Committee (CC) meeting that concluded on Sunday, Yadav said, “High Level Political Committee (HLPC) is not serious toward the demands of the disgruntled parties. HLPC is holding talks just for the sake of talks.” [break]
“Khil Raj Regmi should step down from the post of chief justice in line with the principle of separation of powers, ratio of first-past-the-post and proportionate electoral system should be made similar to that of the last CA elections, constituency delineation should be done on the basis of population and unregistered voters must be registered in new electoral rolls,” MPRF political document issued on the occasion states. The document further said that the elections conducted by ignoring the concerns of the agitating parties will not be meaningful.
He added that the delineation of constituencies should be done on the basis of population as per the clause of Article 63 (3) of the interim constitution.
“To lower the representation of Madhesis by decreasing the number of constituencies in the Tarai is a ploy to further sideline them,” said Yadav, insisting, “Madhes should have at least 51 percent representation in the new CA as country´s more than half population lives in the Tarai.”
“The amendment to the Interim Constitution made by the election government was unconstitutional,” said Yadav maintaining that such attempt had paralyzed democracy. “The Regmi-led government acting on the instructions of the four major parties has paralyzed the Interim Constitution,” said Yadav.
He said that people are doubtful about whether the new CA will be able to draft a new constitution or not. “The experiences from the past CA show that it will be difficult for the new CA also to write constitution.” He also said the four major parties are still unable to assure the people that the new CA would surely draft a new constitution.
In a separate context, he said that the international community including both the neighboring countries India and China were in the favor of meaningful CA polls. He further clarified that his party was not against the polls and are just demanding ´meaningful´ polls.
