Families of those deceased sow the Satbeej (many different seeds) and lit lights praying for eternal peace to the deceased on the day of Bala Chaturdashi festival.

As per the Hindu mythology, one’s ancestors will have a place in heaven if such seeds are sown in the shrines of the Lord Shiva and at Pashupati area in the name of the deceased and family happiness is ensured.

Devotees coming from various places of the country throng the Pashupati area light the Mahadeep (lights) in the name of their deceased ancestors and stay awake the whole night on Mangsir Krishna Trayodashi chanting hymns while sowing the Satbeej early morning on Chaturdashi after taking a holy bath.
