KATHMANDU, March 21: Vice-President Parmanand Jha has said that the Hindi language could be recognized as the lingua franca in a new constitution. In an interaction program on Hindi language organized in the capital Saturday, Vice-President Jha said that the country is a multi-lingual and multi-ethnic, therefore, Article No 5 of the Interim Constitution-2007 reads Nepali language as an official national language and other mother tongues as the national languages.
Similarly, literary figure Ram Dayal Rakesh suggested not competing in the name of languages as the Nepali is the national language and Hindi as the lingua-franca.
Academician Dr Usha Thakur said that the Hindi language should get constitutional recognition. According to her, it is taught in different 40 countries. RSS
