"The market of high-end bikes in general has increased by around 10 percent compared to the last year," said Pramila Khatri, showroom manager of Ganesh Enterprises - the sole authorized distributor of Suzuki motorcycles for Nepal.[break]
Ganesh Enterprises has been selling Suzuki´s five high-end models -- B-King, Hayabusa, GSR-600, GXSR-600 and GXF 650 -- in the Nepali market.
“Since 2007, we have sold 28 units of Suzuki´s high-end models in the Nepali market,” said Khatri.
While the B-King costs Rs 2.35 million, Hayabusa and GXF 650 cost Rs 2.2 million and Rs 1.45 million respectively. Similarly, GSR-600 can be taken home for Rs 2.05 million, while GSR-600 (with antilock braking system) costs Rs 1.5 million. Regular model of GSR-600 is priced at Rs 1.4 million.
“The craze for high-end bikes is very high in Nepal," said Nanda Pradhan, senior officer of Batas Brothers Motors that represents Hyosung -- a popular Korean motorcycles brand - in Nepal.
According to Pradhan, the company sold around 90 units of high-end Hyosung models in Nepal over the past one and half years.
Currently, five select models of Hyosung are available in the Nepali market. While Hyosung GV650 is available for Rs 1.2 million, GT650 costs Rs 1.1 million, GT250 is priced at Rs 625,000, RT125D at Rs 468,000 and GV250 at Rs 650,000.
Syakar Company - that represents Honda and Hero Honda two-wheelers in Nepal - has also seen rise in demand for models with higher displacement. Syakar currently sells six high-end Honda models in the Nepali market. Costing Rs 2.2 million, Honda CBR 1000R is the most expensive Honda bike available in Nepal.
Honda CBR 600 costs Rs 2.05 million, Hornet 600 is available for Rs 625,000 and XR 250T Tornado, CBR 250 and NXR 150 Bros are priced at Rs 625,000, Rs 425,000 and Rs 525,000 respectively.
“Sales of the high-end bike is increasing and we are satisfied with the sales figures,” said Bikash Shrestha, sales executive at Honda showroom.
