High Court acquits Bamjan in child sexual abuse case

The Janakpur High Court has acquitted Ram Bahadur Bamjan, a self-proclaimed ascetic, of charges related to child sexual abuse.

KATHMANDU, April 17: The Janakpur High Court has acquitted Ram Bahadur Bamjan, a self-proclaimed ascetic, of charges related to child sexual abuse. The decision was made by a bench of judges Khem Raj Bhatta and Narishwar Bhandari, overturning the verdict of the Sarlahi District Court.


On March 19, 2024, the High Court also acquitted Gyan Bahadur Bamjan and Dig Bahadur Bamjan, who were accused alongside Ram Bahadur of the same crime. Both Gyan Bahadur and Dig Bahadur had previously been acquitted by the district court as well.

With the court's acquittal, Ram has been released from the Sindhupalchowk jail. The Sarlahi District Court had sentenced Bamjan to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 500,000 on July 1, 2024.


On October 10, 2019, Ganga Maya Tamang from Rautahat filed a complaint accusing Bamjan of rape while she was staying at the ashram.
