KATHMANDU, Aug 28: A quiet unease has gripped Bihar after Indian security agencies raised an alarm over the possible infiltration of three suspected members of the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) militant group.

The men—identified as Hasnain Ali from Rawalpindi, Adil Hussain from Umerkot, and Mohammad Usman from Bahawalpur, Pakistan—are believed to have made their way into India through Nepal earlier this month. Local media reports suggest the trio landed in Kathmandu in mid-August before crossing into Bihar last week.

The warning has triggered an extensive security sweep across Bihar’s border districts. Authorities have circulated the men’s passport details and even released sketches of the suspects. Police stations along the porous Nepal-India border have been told to maintain strict surveillance, keep eyes on the ground, and act swiftly against any suspicious movements.

Jaish-e-Mohammed, a Pakistan-based outfit long designated as a terrorist organisation by India, has been linked to several high-profile attacks in the past. The possibility of its members attempting to exploit Nepal’s open border with India has once again highlighted the region’s vulnerabilities.

The timing of the alert is particularly sensitive. Bihar heads into state assembly elections later this year, and officials are wary of the threat of disruption. Security forces have been instructed to intensify intelligence collection, step up patrols, and plug potential infiltration routes.

For now, the sketches of three men circulate among checkpoints, bus stands, and railway stations across the state—a visible reminder of the invisible threat that may be moving quietly through Bihar.
