KATHMANDU, Dec 7: The counting of votes cast under Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system has concluded. The Election Commission (EC), however, has not released the final results saying that they are verifying the number of votes from the districts.

However, the tentative seats each of the seven political parties that have crossed the minimum three percent threshold of valid votes will get under the PR electoral system is now clear. There are a total of 110 seats allocated for proportional representation in the 275-member House of Representatives (HoR).

A total of 10.56 million votes cast under the PR electoral system were declared valid. The CPN-UML has received 2.84 million PR votes. The party is set to get 34 seats. The UML has won 44 seats under the FPTP electoral system.

Similarly, the NC has secured a total of 2.71 million votes under the PR electoral system and is set to get 32 seats. As the party has already secured victory in 57 seats under the FPTP electoral system, the NC is set to be the largest party in parliament with a total 89 lawmakers.

The CPN (Maoist Center) has stood third both in terms of FPTP and PR electoral system. The party secured a total of 1.17 million votes under the PR category and is likely to get 14 seats. As the party has won 18 seats under the FPTP electoral system, the party is set to be the third largest party in parliament with a total of 32 seats.

The voting results show that Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) have also secured relatively better positions in terms of PR seats. While the Rastriya Swatantra Party has secured 1.13 million votes under the PR electoral system, Rastriya Prajatantra Party has secured 588,000 votes. The RSP and RPP are set to secure 13 and 7 PR seats, respectively.

Similarly, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) has secured 421,000 votes and Janamat Party has secured 394,000 votes. Both these parties are set to receive 7 seats each under the PR electoral system. While JSP has won 7 seats, Janamat Party has one seat under the FPTP electoral system.

But as other parties have failed to cross the minimum 3 percent threshold for PR votes , they will not win HoR seat under the PR electoral system.
