KATHMANDU, Oct 22: The registration of aspiring nominees for the first phase of upcoming federal parliament and provincial assemblies is underway in 32 districts.
Those would-be candidates are submitting their nominations at the office of the Chief Returning Officer and the Returning Officer opened in the district headquarters till 5 pm.
The nominations is taking place for 37 constituencies for the members of the House of Representatives and in 74 constituencies for the members of the Provincial Assemblies in the first phase
Few high profile leaders are contesting for the first phase of the polls. Former Prime Minister and coordinator of Naya Shakti Party Dr Babu Ram Bhattarai and Vice-Chairman of Narayan Kaji Shrestha are contesting from Gorkha-2. Nepali Congress is supporting Bhattarai for this constituent. Likewise, chief whip of Nepali Congress, Chinkaji Shrestha have filed from Gorkha-1.
Likewise, Chairperson of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Democratic) Pashupati Shamsher Rana has nominated his candidacy from Sindhupalchok-2. NC has supported Rana for this constituent. CPN (MC) leader Agni Sapkota is on the race from Sindhupalchok-1, representing left-alliance.
CPN (UML) secretary Yogesh Bhattarai has registered his candidacy from Taplejung.
From Nuwakot-1, NC leader Dr Ram Sharan Mahat is on the race whereas from Nuwakot-2, another NC leader Arjun Narsingh KC has registered his nomination for House of Representatives.
Similarly, NC leader Rajeev Bikram Shah and CPN (MC) leader Shakti Bahadur Basnet are prominent candidates from Jajarkot for House of Representatives.
Barsha Man Pun of CPN (MC) and Amar Singh Pun are aspiring leaders contesting from Rolpa for House of Representatives.
The first phase of the election is being held in Solukhumbu, Sankhuwasabha, Bhojpur, Okhaldhunga, Taplejung, Panchthar, Khotang, Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Dhading, Sindhupalchok, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Mustang, Myagdi, Baglung, Manang, Lamjung, Gorkha, East Rukum, Rolpa, West Rukum, Jajarkot, Humla, Mugu, Jumla, Kalikot, Dolpa, Darchula, Bajhang, Bajura and Baitadi districts on November 26.
