KATHMANDU, Jan 13: The hearing on 13 writ petitions filed against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) at the apex court is scheduled for today.
The president Bidya Devi Bhandari dissolved the lower house of parliament and announced a midterm elections for April 30 and May 10 on the recommendation of Prime Minister K P Oli. As many as 13 writ petitions were filed in the apex court following the controversial decision made on December 20, 2020.

The apex court has formed a five-member constitutional bench headed by Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana to conduct the hearings on the writ petitions. The number has now come down to four as one of the justices -- Hari Krishna Karki-- picked as a member of the constitutional bench announced not to be part of the bench after his presence in the bench was questioned. Karki previously served as Attorney General of Prime Minister K P Oli.
At the earlier hearing, the petitioners have demanded a full bench for the hearing on the case.
Those against the government move of dissolving parliament are staging mass demonstrations demanding restoration of the parliament while the government has already begun the preparations for holding the midterm elections.
The midterm elections have been scheduled for April 30 and May 10.
