KATHMANDU, APRIL 23: Hearings on the controversy surrounding the retirement of eight brigadier generals of the Nepal Army continued at the Supreme Court for a fifth consecutive day Thursday.

As the lawyers did not finish with their pleadings, Justices Anup Raj Sharma and Prem Sharma adjourned the hearings till Sunday. Friday and Saturday are public holidays.

By Thursday, all lawyers representing the brigadiers finished their pleadings and lawyers for the Defense Ministry started furnishing replies to arguments submitted to the bench by the other party.

Lawyers involved said the court is likely to give its ruling Sunday on whether to continue the March-24 stay order on the government´s decision to pension off the brigadiers.

The Supreme Court has been holding the hearings to arrive at a conclusion on the application by the Defense Ministry seeking nullification of the March -24 stay order issued by Justice Kalyan Shrestha.

The Defense Ministry had moved the apex court amidst street protests against the stay order by Maoists who support the government decision to pension off the eight brigadiers.
