MANAHARI, Oct 7: Minister for Health and Population, Mohan Bahadur Basnet, has argued that there would not be drastic change in the health sector until the Medical Education Act was amended.

At a press meet organized by Nepali Congress (NC), Makawanpur district committee in Hetauda on Saturday, Minister Basnet warned that there would be no doctors in Nepal after five years if the Medical Education Act is not amended. He said that he was making necessary homework to create an environment conducive to the study of medical science and nursing education in Nepal by amending the Act.

He further said the country can not provide quality health services if the production of skilled health workers in health sectors is not increased.

Stating that the health ministry had been working continuously to end the crisis and aberration surfaced in the health sector, Health Minister Basnet, however, claimed there is drastic change in services of government hospitals after he took the responsibility as the health minister.

Minister Basnet said that meaningful changes would be seen in the health sector within the next six months. He also shared that he was active round-the-clock to provide basic health service to people.
