Sudip Thapa, instructor at the Jasmine Fitness Club and Spa, informs us of many benefits of joining a gym apart from just losing weight and toning up muscles.
“Gone are those days when people thought a workout at a gym was only for wrestlers,” he smiles. Thapa himself has been actively involved in fitness and gym training for the past 17 years.
The youth today, according to Thapa, are more conscious than ever. They have a love for their body and that is the driving force behind this ´phenomenon´ of the gym culture.
Thapa believes it is a good thing. There are also those, he says, who exercise only because they think it makes them look good. Whatever be the reason, regular exercise can never be a bad thing.

Sarita Maharjan, 23, loves to “sweat in the gym”. She joined a gym because she disliked her belly which was poking out of all her dresses. “I like to wear all kinds of clothes, but my stomach was sticking out; it made me look bad and left me feeling unconfident,” Maharjan says.
It has only been a month since Sarita began exercising and she says she already feels the difference.
Exercises are not merely calorie burning techniques as most of us perceive it to be. Regular exercises improve the digestive system of the body apart from enhancing the respiratory system and it brings out healthy skin, says Thapa.
Rohit Prdhan, 27, has been regularly attending gym for the past one and a half years. He says it helps him feel a lot more confident. He is also de-stressed after every exercise session at his gym. Rohit believes it is important to look good and feel good as well.
Looking good is definitely a priority among the youth of today. It can be seen in the way people like to dress, sport their hair and the priority they give to the body image. Wearing good clothes these days does not suffice; everyone wants to look good in the clothes they wear.

Jenisha Moktan, Miss Nepal 2009, believes that it is extremely important to look good in the clothes you wear. She believes exercise helps you achieve that perfect figure and the confidence to carry your clothes. She says, “My mom is a yoga trainer; I make it a point to exercise daily and also do some yoga.”
Moktan thinks that it´s a wonderful change that these days everyone is so concerned about their image and their health. The increasing number of gyms is a positive sign, says Moktan.
Socialization is another potential benefit to joining a gym. You can meet like-minded people who share your interest. Sudip Thapa shares how his clients are now his friends and that there are always a lot of discussions and sharing of experiences and feelings. “It is like a classroom where everyone is everyone´s best friend,” he exclaims.
Rohit and Sarita both agree. They both have made quite a lot of friends during their gym classes and say that joining a gym also gives them inspiration to work even harder. “When there are people around you with a great physique it makes you want to work even harder. There are so many girls in the gym these days which itself is so motivational for guys,” Rohit giggles.
Whatever may be the reason the increasing number of youths participation in exercise will definitely lead them toward a healthier future.
