Gupta dispatches letter to the OHCHR Chief

KATHMANDU, Aug 1: Former minister Jaya Prakash Gupta has dispatched an open letter to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights saying that he is under the surveillance of the Nepal government and it has caused serious threats to his private life.



"The government has put me under the surveillance. It has curtailed fundamental rights to free movement and dignified life," Gupta has said in a letter sent to OHCHR Chief Navanetham Pillay on Thursday. [break]



In his letter to the OHCHR Chief, Gupta has also claimed that the Madhesi human rights defenders are at risk. The former minister has appealed the United Nations to resend its monitoring unit to Nepal aiming at monitoring ongoing human rights condition of the country.
