Police were searching for her following the arrest of the abduction mastermind Shyam Sundar Gupta, a former minister.[break]
The Kathmandu District Court on Monday remanded her to eight days of judicial custody for further investigations.
Subba, who originally hails from Nagi, Panchthar, is the fifth person arrested in connection with the abduction. Police tracked her on a basis of statement recorded by Gupta´s personal driver Amir Acharya. “We arrested her from her residence,” said SSP Devendra Subedi, the chief of MPCD, Hanumandhoka.
Preliminary investigation by police has revealed that Gupta had given her Rs. 3.1 million for assisting him in the abduction and also found that she had been in contact with Bikram alias Shyam Giri, whose mobile phone was used for asking ransom.
Police are searching for the cash that Gupta had paid to Subba. Of the total ransom money Rs 8.5 million that the Sanghai family paid to secure his release; police have recovered Rs 5.5 million from Akash Lama of Kavre and Jit Bahadur Gole alias Bikash Lama of Padampokhari, Hetauda.
In the meantime, it has been revealed that former minister Gupta had purchased jewelry worth Rs. 1.7 million using the ransom money. A police officer from the MPCD, Hanumandhoka told Republica the jewelry was purchased from Gold Palace, New Raod.
“He might have purchased that jewelry for his son´s marriage,” the officer added.
Sadbhawana Party (Anandi Devi) lawmaker Gupta was arrested from Bhairahawa on January 17 and is still in judicial custody. Sanghai is the owner of Arya Pharmecuticals.
