Gulmi woman gives birth to quadruplets

GULMI, Jan 14:A mother in Gulmi district has given birth to quadruplets at Palpa-based Lumbini Medical College Teaching Hospital on Thursday morning.

Gita Kunwar, 26, who hails from Ratopokhara village of Jaisithok VDC-2, gave birth to four babies -- two boys and two girls.


According to the hospital, a boy and a girl weigh 1.7 kg each while the remaining two are 1.2 kg each.

Doctor Babita Thapa at the hospital informed that condition of the mother and the newborns is normal. "We successfully delivered the babies through caesarean section. The mother and the four newborns are safe," said Dr Thapa.

A team of doctors including Dr Thapa, Dr Shreeyashi Aryal and Dr Dipak Shrestha carried out the cesarean section efficiently.

Earlier, she was brought to Palpa and kept under residential care and treatment after the ultrasound found four babies at Tamghas based Resunga Hospital. According to Dr Laxman Bhusal at Resunga Hospital, such case is rare.
