Khanal praised the former Indian prime minister for his five-point Gujral Doctrine designed to build mutual trust between India and its neighbors and to resolve problems through bilateral talks. [break]
“The objective of his doctrine was to build a South Asia that was more peaceful and developed thus ensuring stability in the region," Khanal said in a message sent to the Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh, on Saturday.
"In the doctrine, he had also proposed policy orientation to reform Nepal-India bilateral relations so that it could be based on the principle of mutual benefit, respect, equality, cooperation and trust."
He described Gujral as a sober politician and statesman with intellectual prowess.
