Great Buddhist Trial Mountain Bike Rally from March 17

KATHMANDU, Feb 7:  The second edition of the Great Buddhist Trail, a spiritual and adventurous mountain bike journey, will be held from March 17 through 20. Buddhist Circuits.com, the organizer of the rally, announced the dates for the event at a press meet in Lalitpur on Wednesday.

The rally will begin from Swayambhunath stupa premises in Kathmandu and will conclude in Lumbini, according to the organizers.  On the first day of the event, cyclists will pedal to Chandragiri Cable car station, take a cable car ride to Chandragiri top and pedal down to Kulekhani and reach Hetauda via Daman.

On the second day, they will reach Kawasoti via Narayanghat. On the third day, cyclists will visit Buddhist heritage sites like Devdaha and Ramgram before reaching Lumbini. All the cyclists will participate in a competitive cycling event on the last day, March 20. They will circumambulate the Lumbini Sacred Garden seven times, covering the distance of 77.77 kilometers. The digit ‘7’ holds great significance in Buddha’s life.

There will be two categories in the event – men’s and women’s. Top three mountain bikers in both the categories will take home cash prizes of Rs 77,777, Rs 55,555 and Rs 33,333, respectively, as well as medals and certificates.
