ILLAM, June 10: Gorkha People’s Liberation Front(GPLF) is going to hold a meeting in Darjeeling to discuss its ongoing protest programs against the decision made by the government of West Bengal, one of the provinces in India, to make Bengali compulsory subject in school level education.
Political pundits have pointed out the possibility that the meeting will make a decision about additional strong protest programs against the West Bengal’s state government.
UDMF to intensify protest from mid-March
”Since the state government is treating Nepali-speaking community in West Bengal in an autocratic manner, we are forced to make peaceful demonstration more intense,” said President of GPLF and Gorkha Territorial Administration(GTA) Bimal Gurung.
According to him, the meeting will review the protest programs carried out thus far and future strategy for pressurizing the state government to withdraw its decision to make Bengali ‘compulsory subject’ in school level curriculum.
He also indicated that they would carry out more intense protest programs by setting forth one-point demand of Gorkhaland. GPLF had called general strike in Darjeeling, Kalempong, Kharsang and Mirik on Friday.
