KATHMANDU, April 1: Minister for Urban Development, Ram Kumari Jhakri has said that the governments at all three levels must work together to make federalism a success.
Stating that there is no need for a dispute over the jurisdiction of the federal, provincial and local governments, she said that all levels of governments should work together to make federalism a success.
Speaking at a province-level discussion and interaction program on the formulation of National Urban Policy and Urban Development Act organized by the Ministry of Urban Development in Biratnagar on Friday, Minister Jhakri said that all levels of government should move forward together as per the spirit of federalism.
"We should not just sit around arguing about the scope of work of all three levels of governments. We have to move forward together,” said Minister Jhakri. The ministry said that the urban policy will be amended according to federalism and an Urban Development Act will be formulated.
Similarly, Chief Minister of Province 1, Rajendra Prasad Rai said that development and budget should be decentralized according to the spirit of federalism. Stating that the number of migrants has increased as development and investment is concentrated only in big cities, Rai said that the policy should be modified for the development of all sectors.
Likewise, secretary of the Ministry of Urban Development, Dr Ramesh Prasad Singh said that there was an urgent need to revise the urban policy following the adoption of federalism by the country. Stating that the migration rate from the villages to the cities has been increasing in search of various amenities, he said that the issue will be covered by the revised urban policy and the urban development act.
