KATHMANDU, The Department of Transport has clarified what kind of vehicles need to get embossed number plates within mid-July after widespread criticism. The government has said that it has made it mandatory for all vehicles registered after November 17, 2021 to get embossed number plates.
Speaking at a press meet, Director General Namraj Ghimire of the Department of Transport Management said that the rule will be mandatory for only three types of vehicles. According to Ghimire, new vehicles bought after November 17, 2021 will have to install embossed number plates by mid-July. Similarly, owners of second-hand vehicles purchased after February 13 will have to install embossed number plates to their vehicles. And, those who went for a renewal after last May 15 will also have to attach the embossed number plates by mid-July.
According to a notice published in the Gazette on November 8, 2021, those who were required to affix embossed number plates should monitor whether such plates are attached to the vehicles or not. "Embossed number plate attachment is not an optional subject," the department said in a statement.
"In order to complete the work in a limited time, it is necessary to speed up the work in the coming days. Embossed number is not mandatory for all vehicles running on the road from mid-July.”
