A bank team, which met with the government officials on Monday at the Ministry of Energy to express the bank´s interest in extending assistance for the construction of the 400 kv transmission line between Nepal and India, discussed the modalities of a regional package to support the project.
“We are more than willing to accept the assistance to complete the construction of the line on our side. The bank will discuss it with the Indian side soon,” a ministry official present in the meeting said, adding, “The bank can also extend private loans to the two companies set up for this project.”
The bank can provide separate loans to the government or to both the joint-venture companies -- Power Transmission Company Nepal and Cross-border Power Transmission Company of India.
The team also sought progress status of the Kabeli and Kali Gandaki upgrading project, and multi-fuel upgrading projects, among others. Nepal has also sought the bank´s assistance in other sectors like the proposed line on Kathmandu-Upper Tamakoshi section.
“The meeting was positive and the modalities will be jointly worked out between the government, Nepal Electricity Authority and WB,” an NEA official said.
India proposes Nov 8-9 for JCWR
India has proposed November 8-9 for holding the meeting of the Joint Committee for Water Resources (JCWR) in Kathmandu, an official at the Ministry of Energy said. The JCWR will be followed by the ministerial-level meeting, the Joint Ministerial Commission on Water Resources (JMCWR), within a week in India.
