Death rate has increased by 0.8 percent since the government lifted the lockdown

KATHMANDU, Aug 3: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has urged the elderly above 60 years of age and children below 12 not to come out of their houses in view of the growing risk of novel coronavirus in recent days.

Ministry spokesperson Dr Jageshwar Gautam, while speaking during a regular press briefing on Sunday, said that this request has been made amid the rising number of COVID-19 cases throughout the country.

“As a lot of people over 60 are already suffering from diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure, they are likely to succumb to COVID-19 if they get exposed to this virus,” said Dr Gautam. “Similarly, children below 12 rarely maintain physical distance and wear masks increasing the risk of the COVID-19 infection.”

According to the data released by the ministry, the infection rate has increased by 0.8 percent after the lifting of the lockdown. The number of deaths, too, has increased sharply.
