Prime Minister Dr Babu Ram Bhattarai will announce the package himself on Thursday after the cabinet endorses it early in the morning, said Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun. [break]
Though he did not disclose details of the package, top government officials said the package will offer incentives to the private sector mainly aiming to attract them to invest on priority sectors.
“Incentives will come mainly in tourism, agriculture, infrastructure and hydropower sectors,” said a source.
While the package will aim to motivate private entrepreneurs to the sectors that do not need much power, like commercial crops and herbs processing, it will also offer incentives for hydropower developers.
“Rather than making huge financial benefits, the package will set priorities for different ministries and ease the procedures, doing away with the red tape,” said the source.
Minister Pun also said the new package will not add new cost to the government.
“The existing budget will be enough to implement it. We will realign the existing budget and also transfer fund from different headings, if required, into the priority areas,” added Pun.
