According to Civil Consumers Forum, any mishap at the gas chambers will result in devastating consequences. “And with the number of cylinders stored in the chambers ever growing, the disaster can happen anytime,” said Sahadev Gautam, president of the forum. “We sent a letter regarding this to various ministries and departments two days ago. We haven´t received any response so far,” he added.[break]
The problem is compounded by the facts that the storage site sits amid human settlement and that the chambers have been using old and outdated machines.
The forum had dispatched press release to the media and sent the same to Ministry of Industry, Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, Urban Development Ministry, Nepal Oil Corporation, Gas Industry Association and Environment Minister, among other concerned bodies, on Friday.
“We are going to follow up on the matter. We are set to get clear answers from the responsible officers tomorrow. We will ask them what action they are going to take regarding the matter,” Gautam said. He added that the forum would pressurize the government to shift these chambers somewhere away from the city so as to prevent possible mishap.
“A small mistake in the chamber can have disastrous consequences for the entire city,” Gautam stressed.
