“We are preparing agendas for the meeting, and among them we will include the issues of the Mahakali flooding that had devastated Khalanga, the district headquarters of Darchula and other downstream areas in early June,” said Kamal Regmi, joint-secretary at the Ministry of Irrigation.
Dozens of people were rendered homeless by the devastating Mahakali flood, which swept away large swathes of human settlements and public infrastructure in Khalanga, including road, hospitals and schools.
Deluges caused by the India-built dams and embankments on the Mahakali had also wreaked havoc in Kanchanpur. Some of the issues on the anvil include canals in the Nepal side from the Tanakpur barrage, irrigation projects in Dodhara and Chadani.
The much-awaited bilateral meeting will also discuss other water resources related issues and review the progress on the other issues agreed upon during the Third JSTC meeting held in New Delhi in 2011.
Nepali team will be led by the Director General at the Department of Irrigation, Shiva Kumar Sharma.
