Govt to provide fuel to vehicles transporting cargo from dry port

KATHMANDU, Nov 11: Minister for Commerce and Supplies Ganesh Man Pun has said that vehicles ferrying goods from dry port to different parts of the country will be given fuel in priority basis.

Talking to the tea of Nepal Foreign Trade Association (NFTA) on Tuesday, Minister Pun said that the government was doing the needful to transport goods stuck at dry port to their respective destinations. "The ministry will soon direct concerned government agencies to provide fuel to trucks and containers transporting such goods," he added.On the occasion, officials of NFTA briefed Pun about problems that country's private sector have been facing due to Tarai unrest and border blockade. NFTA Ramesh Gupta said country's economy is in a critical due to the unrest running for the past three months. He also urged the minister to take effective measures to protest economy.

"The government should levy customs duty on goods stuck at border points and dry port at CIF (Cost Insurance and Freight) price. It should also take initiative to relax different other charges and port rents," Gupta said. He also urged Minister Pun to initiate the process of providing waiver in demurrage and detention charge borne by traders during the banda period.

Similarly, NFTA also asked that government to allow private sector to do petroleum transactions.
