KATHMANDU, May 2: The government has unveiled plans to broaden its child nutrition grant program, extending it to cover all 77 districts of the country. At present the government has been distributing Rs 532 as child grant to children below five years of age in 25 selected districts as well as to children below five years of age from Dalit households of all 77 districts.
During the 'Policy Dialogue on Social Protection and Child Grant in Nepal' event organized by the Social Protection Civil Society Network and INSP!R Nepal on Wednesday, Minister for Women, Children, and Senior Citizens, Bhagawati Chaudhary, announced the expansion initiative. Minister Chaudhary stressed the government's commitment to ensuring every child in Nepal receives essential nutrition support for healthy growth and development. "We are dedicated to ensuring that every child in Nepal, regardless of their location, receives the essential nutrition support they need for healthy growth and development,” she said.

This expansion aligns with constitutional guarantees and the Child Rights Act, which enshrine the right to social protection for all children. Stakeholders at the event emphasized the importance of investing in children's welfare and integrating them into the broader social security framework. The move signifies a significant step towards enhancing child welfare and social protection nationwide.
