Chief District Officer of Morang Tara Nath Gautam informed that the local administration has expedited construction of tin houses for fire victims. “The committee meeting has already decided to provide corrugated sheets for new huts to be built for fire victims,” CDO Gautam informed. “We have also started collecting other construction materials,” said Gautam addressing a function organized to distribute relief packages to the fire victims on Friday.[break]
The fire that broke out due to short circuit reduced 90 houses in the Govindapur VDC-1 to ashes on Tuesday. CDO Gautam further informed that the local administration would also provide rice seeds to the fire victims.
“We have been living under small tents provided by the donors. As all of us huddle inside the tents at night we have not been able to sleep for the last several days,” said Mohammad Aaihasan, one of the fire victims.
“I have nothing left as all my clothes and belongings were destroyed in the fire,” said Sabnam Khatun.
Similarly, the Nepalese Army Wives Association (NAWA) distributed 80 sets of blankets to 41 victim families on Friday.
Meanwhile, political leaders have been frequenting Govindapur VDC to sympathize with the fire victims. Nepali Congress leader Sujata Koirala reached the village on Friday. It is informed that Chairman of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Loktantrik) Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar is also planning to visit the village on Saturday.
NC leader Amodh Prasad Upadhyaya, who was elected from the constituency, has also met the fire victims.
