KATHMANDU, April 27: The government has tightened the security arrangements for the Third Investment Summit 2024. Security arrangements have been intensified to ensure the safety of guests attending the summit, which will take place at the Soaltee Hotel in Tahachal, Kathmandu on April 28 and 29.

The summit is set to feature 10 sessions, with over 50 speakers and more than 1000 potential investors attending the event. Police personnel will escort guests from the hotel to the summit venue. Security patrols will be heightened across Kathmandu, with Nepal Police receiving support from the Armed Police Force.

"Considering the high-profile guests arriving for the investment summit, security measures in the Kathmandu Valley have been heightened," stated AIG Deepak Thapa of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office. He added that security has been bolstered across all three districts of the Kathmandu Valley, with increased mobile patrols. Security personnel will patrol the areas around the Soaltee Hotel throughout the conference.

The District Security Committee meeting has decided to mobilize all security personnel for the investment summit. According to the sources, 1,100 security personnel will be deployed directly or indirectly at the Soaltee Hotel under the command of a DSP.

The conference, commencing from Sunday at 8 AM, will kick off with registration followed by the opening session at 9:30 AM. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Finance Minister Barshaman Pun, and representatives from the private sector will express their views during this session. According to the Investment Board of Nepal (IBN), the program is expected to last around 2 hours and 15 minutes.

The second session, a plenary session, is scheduled to start around 12:30 PM. It will feature presentations on investment potential in Nepal and the success of past investments in the country.

Following the main session, a showcase of 148 projects identified by the Investment Board Nepal (IBN) will be held. Additionally, there are plans for the prime minister to meet select businessmen after the program, while the finance minister will hold a meeting with various development partners on Monday morning.

The second day’s initial session is scheduled to take place from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. During this time, three panels will delve into topics such as the potential of renewable energy, the current financial landscape, and investment prospects in green and climate-resilient sectors. Following this session, the second session is slated to run from 11:45 AM to 1:15 PM. This session will focus on discussions related to green finance, sustainable investment, opportunities in the tourism sector, and fostering Nepal's exports through agro-processing supply chains.

During the third session, scheduled from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM, discussions will revolve around innovation and development in the production sector, investment facilitation, and advancements in the information technology sector. Additionally, the summit venue will have 25 stalls, providing investors with information about various projects of interest.

Additionally, the signing ceremony of Project Development Agreements (PDAs) of three projects will be done during the summit. These projects include the China-Nepal Friendship Industrial Park, Upper Marsyangdi-2 Hydropower Project, and the Kohalpur and Banganga Solar Energy Project.
