Though the government slashed fares by 6 percent on diesel-run vehicles and 7 percent on vehicles operating on petrol, transport entrepreneurs are collecting fares at previous rates.
Deepak Devkota, the new transport inspector at Department of Transport Management (DoTM), said the department has initiated action against 10 taxi drivers, seven staffs of different bus operators for not following the new fare rates.
“We have sent the cases to Bagmati Transport Management Office for further action,” said Devkota, who is leading the fare monitoring team that comprises government staffs, transport entrepreneurs and consumer rights activists.
As per the existing law, those defying the government’s fare decision will be slapped penalty ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000.
