Taking part in an interaction program organized by the Reporters´ Club here on Saturday, they urged the government to focus on fair election, giving full power to the Commission.
Former Chief Election Commissioner Surya Prasad Shrestha said fresh election within the third week of June was possible if the Commission gets full shape and election schedule was managed on time.
"It is not the Council of Ministers but the Election Commission which conducts the election," he said, stressing the need of making the Commission powerful and fully functional to ensure timely election. "The Commission would be able to hold the election in the third week of June if gets support and cooperation from the bodies concerned", he said.
Similarly, former election commissioner Dr Ayodhiprasad Yadav said the second election to the Constituent Assembly in the third week of June was possible if the Commission was allowed to work on a war footing.
Another former election commissioner Prof Birendra Mishra said holding the election within the scheduled time was not a tough task for the Commission if the political parties have a positive will to that end.
