KATHMANDU, June 2: Prime Minister Madhav Nepal on Wednesday said he is serious about the reports of Maoist hand in disappearance of Dr Bhakta Man Shrestha, the executive director of BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital Bharatpur, who is missing for over two weeks.

“There are reports from different sides about Maoist involvement. The government is investigating all aspects of the case,” he told a delegation of Youth Association Nepal, the youth wing of CPN (UML).

However, he did not elaborate whether the government had confirmed Maoist hand in the case through its sources.

Nepal also told the delegation that the government knows that Dr Shrestha is alive and believes that he would be released safely.

The association also handed over a memorandum to the PM about the doctor´s abduction as well as that of an Association member, Surendra Tamang, who has been missing for three weeks now.

Surendra was abducted allegedly by the Maoists from Balaju during the Maoist agitation.

Meanwhile, the government has extended the tenure of a police investigation team led by AIG Prakash Kunwar to probe into the case by one week.
