The team on Sunday monitored different retail shops in Babarmahal, Thapathali, Bhaktapur, Kavre and Nagarkot. According to officials of DoCSM, the retail shops were sealed after they were found not abiding by the instructions given by the market monitoring team a month ago.
At that time, market monitoring officials had directed the shops to register their business with concerned authorities, stop selling expired products and display price of products.
But when the follow team visited the shops on Sunday, five were found not abiding by the instructions issued a month ago.“We have also asked owner of the five shops to be present at the department with clarification at the earliest,” Hari Narayan Belbase, director of DoCSM, told Republica.
Belbase said the shops would be allowed to return to business only after the owners convince the officials that the department´s instructions have been implemented.
“We have started follow-up campaign to make sure that our instructions have been implemented by the retailers,” officials of DoCSM said.
The team on Sunday conducted follow-up monitoring at 13 retail shops in Kathmandu Valley as well as in Kavre and Nagarkot.
The team also directed four retail shops in Bhaktapur to get rid of expired products and sell only the products with labels. During the inspection, market monitors found expired products in Shree New Ratna Stores, Shree Balram Stores, Shree KL Stores and Shree Surendra Stores. The team seized expired soft drinks from Surendra Stores and destroyed it. It also directed two retailers in Kavre to destroy expired products and submit a report about it to the department within a week.
