KATHMANDU, May 3: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has appointed Sita Paudel and Ganga Prasad Yadav as the governors of Sudur Pashchim Province and Gandaki Province, respectivley, at the recommendation of Prime Minister K P Oli. Both Paudel and Yadav are considered close to the Oli-led faction of the ruling CPN-UML.
A cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence in Baluwatar on Monday decided to relieve incumbent governors Sharmila Tripathi of Sudur Paschchim Province and Amik Sherchan of Gandaki Province from their posts. Both Tripathi and Sherchan are considered close to the CPN (Maoist Center).
Three airports in Sudur Pashchim to resume operation
Sources said the UML leadership was not happy with them as they allegedly did not cooperate with the UML leadership. The appointment of new governors loyal to the UML could be helpful to form new govt or thwart any no-confidene motion introduced to topple the UML-led government.
