In his first written statement since he was placed in opposition bench since the Constituent Assembly elections, Koirala said the authoritarian thoughts and working style of the government would push the country to crises. The party´s Central Working Committee member Prakash Sharan Mahat read out Koirala´s statement at a press meeting in the party´s central office.
The NC president´s ire follows his criticism in public on Thursday about the government issuing several ordinances a week after the parliament session was prorogued.
"The government has ignored the fact that full compliance to democratic process and national consensus are required to formulate new constitution and establish a lasting peace," said Koirala, whose government had, on several occasions in the past, issued ordinances soon after parliament had been prorogued. He and his government had faced the same charges that he is leveling now.
Koirala said introducing ordinances without presenting the necessary bills in the parliament has exposed the government´s authoritarian intention to impose its will upon the country and the people on issues of long-term impacts and national importance.
Koirala also alleged that the government has failed to address the people´s aspiration that the country would enter an era of enduring peace and harmony in the country after the Constituent Assembly elections.
"The government has created instability and terror in all sectors including education, health and industries," Koirala said. "The government is demoralizing the army by creating unnecessary disputes instead of mobilizing in favor of national interests and creating anarchy in various organs of the state through arbitrary transfers and massive political appointments."
He also blamed the government for failing to pay attention toward unemployment and price-hike increasing everyday.
He also accused the government of making direct or indirect attack on media and making political intervention in Pashupatinath, the center of faith of the Hindus.
Koirala also appealed to political parties, civil society and the people to save the country from such wrong activities of the government against lasting peace and multi-party democratic norms, values and systems.
