Govt-private sector collaboration must for self-reliant economy: Chief Secretary Aryal

KATHMANDU, Aug 1: Chief Secretary Dr Baikuntha Aryal has said collaboration and cooperation between government and private sector helps foster economic activities.

Releasing a book, 'Self Reliant Economy and Export Potential' during a programme organized jointly by the  Confederation of Bank and Financial Institutes of Nepal, and Federation of Nepal Exports' Association here Monday, promotion of exports was essential to build a self reliant economy. Once exportable goods were developed, there would not be a problem of marketing for it, he assured.

The Chief Secretary observed that establishment of export houses for export promotion was a laudable initiative, and assured of assistance from the government side as well.

On the occasion, Secretary at Foreign Ministry, Bharat Raj Paudel, viewed the book as a good guide on how the Nepali products could be exported. Quality must be ensured in such products for foreign supply, he urged the entrepreneurs.

According to him, Nepali diplomatic missions abroad could help promote exports for which Foreign Ministry would facilitate.

Similarly, Secretary at Industry, Commerce and Supply, Madhu Kumar Marasini, said the economy could be enabled once the Nepali products were exported sustainably. Government was identifying the goods to be exported, he informed.

Businesspersons including Bhawani Rana and Kamalesh Kumar Agrawal also underscored the need for augmenting exports of Nepal's original products to meet the sustainable development goals.

Institute's Chairman Pawan Kumar Golyan said export promotion could help generate jobs within home and reduce trade loss as well. Nepal's original products could be promoted for exports so that the country could create 800 thousand jobs in two years.

The book is co authored by Dr Gopal Prasad Tiwari, Uttam Prasad Gautam and Krishna Raj Bajgain. The book has enlisted the exportable Nepali products as handmade paper, allo, cumin, cardamom, medicinal herbs, turmeric and basket.
