KATHMANDU, Oct 11: To enhance convenience for travelers during the upcoming Dashain festival, the Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has made the decision to open route permits for applications across Nepal from October 13 to October 28. This move aims to expedite travel during the festive season, allowing passengers to reach their destinations more efficiently.

However, it's important to note that for public vehicles restricted from operating on specific routes due to road conditions, the restrictions will remain in effect. Uddhav Prasad Rijal, the director general of the DoTM, emphasized this point.

The DoTM has taken the initiative to communicate this decision to the Road Department, Police Head Office, Valley Traffic Office, and the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs. By collaborating with these relevant authorities, they hope to ensure the effective implementation of this measure.

Furthermore, the DoTM has imposed a temporary ban on the operation of large vehicles, including trailers, on the Narayanghat-Kathmandu route from October 13 to October 25. This restriction is intended to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic during the festival period.

Additionally, the DoTM has submitted a request to the road department, urging immediate repairs to the 21 km stretch of road from Kotre to Kathmandu, as well as the Kawasoti-Chormara-Daunne and Pokhara-Mugling roads under the East-West Highway. These maintenance efforts are vital to ensure safe and efficient travel during Dashain.
