KATHMANDU, Dec 20 : Nepal has taken steps to measure the height of world's tallest peak Mt Everest for the first time on its own.
Prior to this, different companies of neighbouring countries India and China had carried out the task. The official height of Mt Everest (8848 meters) was measured by Survey of India in 1954.
Here’s why it takes two years to measure Mt. Everest
Organizing a press meet in the capital on Wednesday, the Department of Survey said that height of Mt Everest is being conducted by establishing 12 points.
Director General of Department Ganesh Prasad Bhatta said that as the measurement of Mt Everest should be conducted from the sea level, Government of India would be requested for measurement of sea level to Indian territory and Chinese Government for Chinese locations.
The Department had organized an international level seminar last week to give final touch to the procedures made for measuring the height of Mt Everest. RSS
