Govt is committed to promoting research, innovation and entrepreneurship: PM Dahal

KATHMANDU, Sept 18: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the government is committed to formulating and implementing long-term policies and programs on research, innovation and entrepreneurship, and on integrating the related national system.

KATHMANDU, Sept 18: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the government is committed to formulating and implementing long-term policies and programs on research, innovation and entrepreneurship, and on integrating the related national system.


In his message of best wishes on the occasion of the National Science Day today, PM Dahal reiterated that the government is at the stage of formulating the necessary bills and legislations for the promotion of research, innovation and entrepreneurship. These legislations would be tabled in parliament soon, he added.


"I have expected that the expected outcome would be achieved after the Acts, regulations and directives for the promotion and regulation of this sector are prepared and regular budget allocation is ensured," the Prime Minister said and called on the provincial and local governments also to invest in this sector.


The 11th National Science Day is being marked throughout the country today. The theme of the Day this year is 'Science Literacy and Entrepreneurship: Foundation for a Strong Economy.'

On the occasion, PM Dahal maintained that we can learn from the experience of the developed countries that a culture of entrepreneurship would be developed among the people with the help of scientific conduct and through this very culture the foundation for the country's economy could be built. 


He said the incorporation in the development-related policy of the provision of promoting scientific study and investment in research, discovery, innovation and development of science and technology, and the protection of scientific, technical, intellectual and specialist talents clearly shows that the State is sensitive about the importance of the science and technology, the innovation sector and the human resources in this sector.


The Prime Minister asserted that the budget has also been allocated for programs such as innovation and invention fund and startup fund centered on scientists, researchers, innovators and youths who have the desire to start entrepreneurship within the country.  


"The empowerment and strengthening of the existing structures in the science, technology and innovation sector is equally necessary. It is the long-term policy of the Government of Nepal to prepare the outline for the restructuring of such organizations and implementing the same, by forming a high-level commission," he further added.
