BHAKTAPUR, Nov 26: Minister for Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Hridaya Ram Thani on Saturday said the government was preparing to endorse the cooperatives bill.
While stressing the essentiality of bringing the bill, he said it will be brought in line with the principles, values and guidelines of cooperatives.
Minister Thani was speaking in the 9th annual general assembly of Maitriya Saving & Credit Cooperative Limited (MSCCL) at Balkot in Bhaktapur.
He also praised the role of cooperatives in promoting economy of the country and providing services to people by reaching out to the doorsteps of people especially in the rural areas where he said the government often reaches to provide services.
It is estimated that there are a total of 33,000 cooperatives across the country.
Also on the occasion, Chairman of Nepal Television Mahesh Dahal viewed that cooperatives of Nepal should learn a lesson from cooperatives around the world.
Chairman of the cooperatives Bal Mukunda Upadhyay said the MSCCL has a total of share capital worth 12 million 899 thousand 7 hundred while informing that it has launched various programs for the economic prosperity of its members.
Likewise, the MSCCL treasurer Diwakar Silwal presented an annual economic report at the event. He said the MSCCL has a deposit of Rs 128 million 809 thousand 838.
MSCCL issued loans of Rs 114 million 849 thousand 842 while it has net profit of Rs 2 million 50 thousand 790. RSS
