Govt working to resolve foreign employment related problems: Minister Bhandari

KATHMANDU, July 3: Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Sharat Singh Bhandari said that the incumbent government is making efforts to address the problems prevailing in the foreign employment sector.


In a program organized by the Nepal Foreign Employment Entrepreneurs Association's (NAFEA) on its 31st anniversary on Sunday, Minister Bhandari argued that the Nepali migrant workers should be able to go to countries that have diplomatic relations with Nepal.


Bhandari reiterated that the incumbent government was working with the belief that Nepali workers should be able to go for foreign employment after inking labor agreements with the countries that Nepal has diplomatic relations with.

According to him, lately there were provisions barring Nepali workers from going to many countries for foreign employment.


Stating that many safety concerns were raised about Nepali migrant workers working as domestic workers abroad, Minister Bhandari assured that the government was serious towards ensuring safety and security as well as the welfare for the Nepalis working as domestic workers aboard.


He pledged to launch an investigation into manpower companies fleecing Rs 10,000 per person as a service charge from aspiring Nepali migrant workers.


Regarding sending off skilled Nepali workers abroad, he said that the government would collaborate with the private sector for the same.
