KATHMANDU, Feb 7: Suresh Ghimire, chairperson of Chemicals and Medical Suppliers Association of Nepal (CHEMSAN) has said that the government does not have any mechanism to test medical equipment and chemicals in the country.  He said that even though the import of medicines is managed in a systematic manner, the import of health equipment is controlled haphazardly.

Chairperson Ghimire said that the government does not even have a policy to test whether quality health products are being imported. He also said that the government did not have any mechanism to test the quality of health equipment, the health products were imported desultory during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Similarly, Chairperson Ghimire accused the government of monitoring only how much profit the business people made in the health equipment market rather than ensuring the quality. He said that the government should immediately come up with a lab for testing the quality of health products.

Likewise, Chairperson Ghimire said that the association has been warning the businessmen not to import counterfeit health items as they have been found abundantly in the market recently.
