Govt directed to make market monitoring effective to curb price hike, black marketing

KATHMANDU, Sept 30: The Industry, Commerce Labour and Consumer Interest Committee under the House of Representatives has directed the bodies concerned to make effective the monitoring of price hike and black marketing facing the consumers during festivals.

A meeting of the parliamentary panel held on Friday also asked the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply to submit the monitoring report after carrying out market monitoring in an effective manner.

The committee also decided to extend the term of the Sub-Committee formed to resolve problems of Sugar Industry and Sugarcane Farmers till mid December 14 later this year.  It also asked the Finance Ministry to ensure the amount as per the proposal of Agriculture Ministry because the subsidy allocated for the current fiscal year would not be sufficient to provide to the sugarcane farmers.

The government has been providing Rs 70 per quintal as a subsidy to sugarcane farmers. On the occasion, it was shared that the sugarcane farmers were yet to get their payment of around one billion rupees of the previous fiscal year.

The meeting directed the government to guarantee immediate clearance of due, while the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration has been asked to register the bill required for the excavation, sale and management of pebbles, sand and stones in the ongoing session of the federal parliament. 

Earlier in the meeting, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supply, Ramesh Rijal, sought cooperation from the judiciary and media sector in the programmes related to country's development and prosperity.
