Issuing a press statement, the foreign ministry said the act of arresting the serving army officer without any evidence to substantiate the allegation and without prior knowledge of his country violates international laws and general principles on the jurisdiction of a sovereign nation.
It also said Nepal is committed to probe any incidence of violence or rights violation and that its law and justice system are self-sufficient and competent enough on their own to try and punish anybody found guilty as per domestic laws.
The statement also said the ministry’s acting secretary Arjun Bahadur Thapa summoned British ambassador to Nepal John Tucknot and handed him a protest note, condemning Lama’s arrest and demanding his immediate release.
The ministry also has communicated to Nepal’s embassy in London to make necessary arrangements for the immediate release of the NA officer and sending him to his duty station in Sudan, the statement added.
