KATHMANDU, May 29: In a welcome move for eco-conscious consumers and importers, the government has decided not to hike taxes on electric and hybrid vehicles, defying weeks of speculation and market anxiety.
Embracing EVs for Sustainable Future
Unveiling the budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2025/26 at the Joint Session of the Federal Parliament on Thursday, Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel announced that the existing tax rates on electric and hybrid vehicles will remain unchanged.
Amid widespread rumours of a tax hike, importers had rushed to bring in electric vehicles fearing a spike in costs. The government's decision comes as a relief to both importers and prospective buyers, reaffirming its commitment to clean energy and sustainable transportation.
