Dahal was appointed as Nepal's envoy to Australia after the government recalled the then ambassador of Nepal to Australia Lucky Sherpa on the charge of human smuggling. Sources said Prime Minister KP Oli decided to recall Dahal as his relation with Chairman of the Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal has soured further in recent days.

Keeping in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the government has decided to extend the term of Nepal's Ambassador to Japan Prativa Rana and Nepal's Ambassador to Oman Sharmila Dhakal Parajuli until further decisions are made. Nepal's ambassadors are normally appointed for four years.
