KATHMANDU, Feb 14:   The government has decided to provide village development committee (VDC) secretaries a monthly incentive of the 50 percent of their salary across the country.

A cabinet meeting held at Singha Durbar on Tuesday decided to provide the monthly incentive to VDC secretaries, Chief Secretary Som Lal Subedi told Republica Online.

Two weeks ago, VDC secretaries had halted their works across the country demanding an additional incentive of up to 50 percent of their monthly salary.

Last year, the cabinet had made a similar decision, bowing to the pressure from the agitating VDC secretaries.

Similarly, the cabinet has decided to allow the authorities concerned to cut down trees in the forest areas for the operation of various projects and construction of Nadaha Koshi Bridge.

Likewise, the meeting has decided to allow the department of road to use additional forest area for the upgradation work of Chatara-Rupnagar road section.

Likewise, the meeting also decided to allow the authority concerned to use forest area for excavation of limestone in Palpa. The meeting also formed a dialogue team to hold talks with World Bank for receiving loan for the School Sector Reform Program.
